The Journal-Democrat, a weekly newspaper serving Spencer County, Ind., is seeking qualified candidates for a sports editor/staff writer to produce multiple stories and photographs for the weekly's sports section and general news pages. The newspaper can also be found online.
Qualifications:
College degree with an emphasis in communications, journalism or English preferred
Demonstrated writing and photography skills (using Adobe Photoshop) are essential.
Layout and design skills using Adobe InDesign are essential
Ability to write compelling, comprehensive, fact-filled local sports stories on deadline
Working knowledge and understanding of local and/or regional sports scene a plus
Must be able to contribute and function in a team-oriented workplace environment
Strong time-management skills
Must be willing to work at the times sporting events take place, including evenings and weekends
Will be a part of a three-newspaper sports group that occasionally covers events for one another
Must be receptive and responsive to coaching
Current driver's license required, plus proof of insurance
Essential Functions:
Develop, propose and write stories focusing on sports and recreation activities in and around Spencer County.
Accept and complete sports reporting and photography assignments.
Establish and nurture sources among athletes, coaches, administrators and others involved in local sports. Spencer County is home to two school systems.
Assist with proofreading, layout and editing each week.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
